Dr Law Chee Wei is a consultant colorectal surgeon adept in all conditions requiring colorectal surgery as well as general surgery.
Surgical Training
Dr Law spent 11 years in the surgical department of University Malaya, the premier teaching hospital in Malaysia, where he was appointed consultant surgeon and Associate Professor.
During this time he gained a wealth of experience in a vast variety of general surgical conditions. He played an active role in the training of young surgeons and was an examiner for the Malaysian Masters of Surgery programme.
Dr Law subspecialized in colorectal surgery and trained in the National University Hospital, Singapore, where he was awarded a Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery in 2008. He continued to advance his skills through courses in anorectal manometry, endorectal ultrasonography (Singapore), ultrasonographic imaging of pelvic floor disorders (Italy) and biofeedback evaluation and treatment (USA).
Clinical Focus
In addition to general surgery, Dr Law specializes in colorectal conditions, including
- Colorectal cancer surgery
- Haemorrhoids
- Anal fissures and anal fistula
- Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and cancer screening
Research
Dr Law believes in staying at the forefront of new techniques and medical advances. His research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals. Among his areas of research are microRNA as a marker in colorectal cancer, epidemiology and quality of life in colorectal cancer. (Full list of publications here)
In addition to supervising several PhD candidates, Dr Law is also an invited reviewer for ISI-indexed journals including BMC Cancer, Neurochemical Research, Scientific Reports and Journal of Translational Medicine.
He feels strongly about early detection of colorectal cancer and to that end has given public lectures as well as radio and TV appearances on the subject. He has published a colorectal cancer patient education guide and is a content reviewer for the Cancer Resource and Education Center.
Current practice
Dr Law is currently practicing in Parkcity Medical Centre, where he sees general surgical as well as colorectal cases. From 2016-2018 he was also the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, Parkcity Medical Center. Dr Law enjoys a close rapport with his patients. Besides being trilingual in Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin, he converses fluently in various Chinese dialects including Cantonese, Hokkien and Teochew.
